troop letter: “Cigar Sunday”
November 30, 2010
We have a
tradition of “Cigar Sunday” every week with some of the other guys
Bob & crew,
I think I was fortunate enough to be on the receiving end of one of your
awesome packages last September when I was in Afghanistan previously.
The box didn’t come to me directly, but someone in my shop got a box of
cigars and snacks, and it was the best care package we’d received the
whole rotation. We all told the recipient to express our thanks to the
generous patriot, and I’m sure they did just that.
I was in Afghanistan for 7 months, then was home for 6 weeks and
volunteered to come right back. After being home less than 90 days, I
took off again for another adventure, and I’m back out here doing what I
love. I was talking with a buddy today who heard about you and said
he’d sent you an email about some cigars and it hit me that you were
probably the group who sent the cigars last rotation. We have a
tradition of “Cigar Sunday” every week with some of the other guys, and
an occasional stogie throughout the week just for the heck of it. If it
wouldn’t be too much trouble, could you please send some cigars &/or
cigar accessories this way? Any cigars would be most appreciated…
though Drew Estates “Acid” cigars and Gurkha’s seem to be the most
sought-after / coveted ones and go up in smoke (literally) as soon as we
get them. :-D Unfortunately, it’s nearly impossible to keep the cigars
in good condition given the extremely dry conditions over here. But we
make do!
I really admire and appreciate all you are doing for us over here!
Moreover, your motivation for starting your program means the most.
This is my 4th deployment now, and I’ve also been in places within the
USA where I was ridiculed and condemned for serving my country. I
believe that the profession of arms is a noble profession, and I’m proud
to serve; regardless of criticism. I appreciate your service to our
country, and certainly appreciate that you have found a way to continue
to serve.
God bless you & your family / staff.
~Dan
