troop letter: Punky

March 28, 2009

Bob,

I wanted to let you know the refrigerator showed up a couple of days ago and I was just able to find a transformer to get it going.  It’s working real well in keeping things nice and cold.  I am using a 300 watt transformer that only does a little over 3 amps while the fridge is 5 amps.  A fellow dorm mate told me that would be fine, but then he contacted me after I plugged it in and said it would need a minimum 500 watt one.  So far the transformer is not excessively hot and no circuits are blowing so I hope it continues to work.

The generosity of you and your folks is simply amazing and all the great items you’ve sent my way are making huge positive dividends across the compound.  I’ll be sending you and those who helped put my packages together some thank you gifts unique to Afghanistan.  Unless you tell me otherwise I will send it to the corporate P.O. Box listed on the return address of my packages.

Thanks again and have a great weekend.

Punky
