Things have slowed down

I wanted to take a moment and catch up with all my outstanding email.  Things have slowed down since the attack on your base, which occurred on 15 OCT.  We were attacked by five suicide bombers, one of which was the driver for the car bomb.  It was estimated the vehicle was packed with 600kg of explosives.  One of the individual suicide bombers, was terminated before he could detonate.  We had to have the EOD team from Bagram come up to clear out all the UXO.  I asked the EOD NCOIC what the vest was composed of and he replied, “HME (homemade explosives) and ball bearings”.  I won’t go into the details as to how we knew there were three other suicide bombers put it involved counting pieces.  Fortunately, no U.S. Soldiers were injured and two of our local national Afghan guards were slightly injured.  Unfortunately, two local truck drivers were killed by the insurgents as they were parked outside awaiting entrance into the base the next day.  They were at the wrong place at the very wrong time.
