troop letter: sweet aroma

October 19, 2009

a care package arrived

Mr. Williams,
Yesterday, a care package arrived addressed to Lt. Jason that was
shared with the unit.  As usual, the soldiers could be seen diving into
the box to see how many handfuls of items they could carry.  Since I am
a coffee fanatic, I immediately opened a brick to smell the sweet aroma
of the beans...to begin the process of brewing a pot for the crew.  A
short time had passed, and I was enjoying a cup with a shortbread
cookie.  But, for a brief moment I thought I was at home.  Away from
rocket attacks...away from choking dust shrouded in the air...away from
the sounds and smell of war.
Although the care packages that are send may not seem like much...there
are times when they transport us back to a safer place...where our
children, family, and friends are near...where the trash and the lawn
need tending.  The Lord’s work can be seen in so many things in life, if
we just take the time to look.
This message is a simple thanks to the people for doing the work of
angels.
Gratefully yours,
SGT Paul
