The Marine Corps has trusted me

They trust us to train them, consider how to best employ them, and to bring them home alive

The Marine Corps has trusted me, and the rest of the officers in my unit with the lives of our Marines. They trust us to train them, consider how to best employ them, and to bring them home alive. The DoD also trusts us with the wisdom and judgment to employ munitions that costs hundreds of thousands of dollars. A single precision guided artillery round can cost $350,000, yet if I needed one it would arrive no questions asked. Why is it then that we have to create gray-area contracts to accomplish our mission? Why can’t we be given unlimited access to the best weapon around: money? Spending here saves lives, both US and Afghan; is it the right thing to do, and we will continue to do just that, no matter how creatively we have to phrase the documents.. Sometimes, in order to do the right thing, to accomplish the mission and help the people here build a better life, one has got to step outside the lines. I just hope that doing so doesn’t cost me my job.
